Steven Siegel, M.D., Ph.D.

Steven Siegel received his M.D. and Ph.D. in Neurobiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1996 after completing his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Colgate University. He later completed a residency in Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Neuropsychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the faculty in 2001. Dr. Siegel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Stanley Center for Experimental Therapeutics in Psychiatry at Penn, where his work includes development of long-term delivery systems for antipsychotic medication. His laboratory at Penn studies the biology of schizophrenia and develops novel pharmaceutical targets for the treatment of psychotic disorders as well as developing animal models related to drug abuse and nicotine addiction.

Dr. Siegel has received national awards from the APA and other professional organizations for his work and has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, The State of Pennsylvania, The Stanley Medical Research Institute, NARSAD and has consulted for or performed preclinical research under the auspices of several pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Siegel also maintains an active clinical practice specializing in the treatment of schizophrenia, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Siegel and his colleagues have published over 30 peer reviewed articles and reviews, including a recent book chapter related to long-term delivery of psychiatric medications.
